~EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitizing and Reprocessing)
EMDR is an evidence-based treatment that has demonstrated significant results in the decrease of trauma symptoms, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and substance use disorders. EMDR utilizes Bi-lateral Stimulation (BLS) which is shown to increase the processing between our right and left brains. As the patient moves through traumatic memories or anxiety-producing core beliefs, the emotional intensity associated with the image or belief rapidly decreases. These negative associations are then overwritten with more neutral or positive emotional associations. As a therapist trained in EMDR, I can provide this modality of treatment upon request or as deemed appropriate.
Although the thought of taking on past traumas or distressing memories can be a daunting task, a lot of time and consideration is put into ensuring the patient has the right tools to be successful. As part of standard practice at ABH, all patients will complete a thorough assessment to determine the best course of treatment. We will then discuss different treatment options. All patients will develop internal and external resources for support while in therapy, ensuring they never feel “without a net”.
